Description: Beginning at the Prussian royal court in the second half of the 18th century. with the Sonata for Solo Flute by C.Ph.E. Bach and Carl Reinecke's Undine Sonata op. 167 from the late Romantic era, it goes to France with Jean Françaix's Divertimento for flute and piano (1953) and Olivier Messiaen's Le Merle noir ("The Blackbird") from the Year 1951. 
The Sonata op. 94 for flute and piano by Sergej Prokofieff, composed in 1943 in Perm, Russia, is stylistically more conservative in terms of tonal language, as is Air for flute solo (1995) by the Japanese Toru Takemitsu.
