In the last decade of the 19th century, a generation of Central European composers emerged that was to exert a strong influence on contemporary music. However, her works for flute are largely little known and some of the pieces included on this album are world premieres. Kornauth, Weigl, Mittler and Petyrek were connected to the Viennese cultural milieu, others like Harsányi, Mihalovici and Martinů were drawn to Paris. The Sonata for Flute and Piano by Prague native Karel Jirák, Op. 32, is undoubtedly an important addition to the recorded catalog of flute music.
